Meet Helen Doyle

A Passionate Advocate for Education

As the daughter of a public-school teacher, mother of three school-aged children, and 16-year resident of Del Mar, I am invested in our schools and community. I have been on my children’s campus nearly every day for five years. I volunteer in the classroom, am active with the PTA, and have regularly attended the Del Mar School Board meetings for the past three years, giving me valuable understanding of how effective governance supports student success. I served for two years as Vice President for Del Mar Union’s district-wide foundation, working collaboratively with district staff, teachers, and parents from all nine schools to raise funds for DMUSD STEAM+ teachers. I am excited for the opportunity to take my experience within Del Mar Union and apply it to the San Dieguito schools, where my children will attend for many years to come.

Sixteen years ago, I had the privilege of becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA, advocating for the needs of foster children in court. I continue that advocacy work by helping to train new CASAs on how to work with biological parents toward reunification. My husband and I earned our foster license and adopted two of our children from the dependency system. My experience with the foster system has deepened my commitment to ensuring that every child’s voice is heard, and their needs are met.

My work experience as a mechanical engineer designing medical devices has taught me collaboration and problem-solving within a budget. I appreciate SDUHSD’s decision to increase their reserve percentage and their history of successful audits. I will support steadily increasing the reserve to meet that new goal while balancing meeting the needs of all our students and staff.

In the quiet moments between parenting and my volunteer work, I enjoy reading, gardening, and caring for my chickens and ducks.

Our Values & Vision

Helen prioritizes listening and collaboration to craft effective policies that serve every student and family.

Preparing Students for the Future

Helen believes in equipping students with the skills needed for an AI-driven world, ensuring they are ready to thrive in a rapidly changing workforce. Students need guidance not only in how to use this new tool, but when and where it's appropriate. Furthermore, our students who will become our future politicians, economists, and community members at large should also be prepared to face the potential disruption to our economy.

Balance Matters

Screens increasingly dominate daily life, both in and out of the classroom. Helen believes in intentional, age-appropriate limits on screen use to support students' mental and physical well-being. Schools offer a unique opportunity to foster face-to-face connection, community, and belonging. Our physical spaces, phone, and computer-use policies should be designed with that in mind.

Supporting Diverse Opportunities

Helen is excited to expand and strengthen programs that provide students with unique opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive. From the new Spanish immersion continuation program at Carmel Valley Middle School to the hands-on learning provided by our high school Career Technical Pathways, she looks forward to helping shape the wide range of opportunities that help students discover their interests and chart their own path forward.

Engaging Our Community

Helen is a collaborative worker, dedicated to encouraging community involvement and empowerment, inspiring parents, teachers, and residents to actively participate in shaping our educational landscape. She believes transparent decision-making, fiscal responsibility, and consensus-building make for the best governance.
